about

"A genuinely different take on modern/old school death, punctuated with glorious soloing. The battering, Cannibal Corpse-esque assault of ‘Darkened’ is superb, as is the chugging Suffocation-like thunder that powers the indomitable ‘Lacuna of Forgetfulness’." - The Killchain Blog

"This is an interesting and engaging death metal debut, with a few surprises up its sleeve. Brutal and aggressive it may be, we’re also treated to some depth, nuance, and atmospheric weight – especially on the 9-minute closer. The EP has many gems to uncover across its running time." - Indy Metal Vault

"The near 9-minute closer in “Enlightened” (riffing off of the concepts from “Darkened”) is the most jaw-dropping. It starts off with some almost folky elements and brings up a completely different vibe, which builds surprisingly well into the more brutal sounds to come." --- Dead Rhetoric

"It’s got filthy death metal groove but alongside it, plenty of unexpected elements too such as varying vocals. A little cleaner at times, a bit gruffer at others and the track [DARKENED] has these bursts of savagery that just slay."---Games, Brrraaains, and A Head-Banging Life

---Lodestar is the debut EP of my personal project, Priests of Prometheus. I have collected 4 of my more death metal songs although they don't strictly adhere to the format. They reflect my love of dynamic songwriting, harmonies, and the occasional off-time rhythms.

The musical influences here are Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Hate Eternal, Dying Fetus, Candiria.

Omnigore and Lacuna of Forgetfulness were both inspired by the book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by the late neurologist, Oliver Sacks. Omnigore is based off of some of the case studies about people (through a deficiency of some sort in their brains) that felt disconnected in one way or another from their bodies.

I imagined a person that felt separated from their body and in their desperation to feel whole again, began consuming themselves. In essence, it is about trying to reunify the feeling of self.

Lacuna of Forgetfulness was based off of The Lost Mariner (ibd. Chapter 2) about a gentleman that had Korsakoff Syndrome. It is a severe memory disorder that is commonly caused by alcohol abuse. This person was locked in the past mentally. He believed that he was still young (20's), but was clearly to everyone else, not so (50's). The song plays out his plight both as the person and from the perspective of the doctor.

Darkened and Enlightened play more on the theme of Priests of Prometheus as a whole. We (humans) find ourselves with this ability to reason. This gift of fire (intellect). Some use this ability to destroy others that aren't in-line with their religious beliefs (Darkened). They hate the only life we can be sure of and trade it as worthless.

Enlightened is a call for followers of this gift to raise it up and cultivate it for the betterment of all. Throw off the shackles of ignorance and unreasonableness. ---
